New Product Example—Mrs. Hobb's Development


Challenge: Create a new brand name to extend company's shelf space in grocery stores. Introduce new products (using existing production expertise) to support this brand name and generate incremental volume.

Actions: In an 18-month period, created the Mrs. Hobbs brand and introduced two separate product lines within it. Mrs. Hobbs Easy Pan Gravy was an innovative line of five "homemade" sauce and gravy mixes, while Mrs. Hobbs Recipe Card Seasoning Blends was a line of 12 spice blends to produce specific meals. Managed product development/testing and consumer testing. Support which was produced for New England Regional pilot tests included newspaper couponing, television advertising, and prepack display units.

Results: Both product lines met pilot sales goals.
